At the end of May 2021, a meeting of a professional selection committee took place at the Polish Institute in Bratislava, which selected the final composition of artists for the 6th annual Textile Art of Today exhibition. Commission composed of: Anna Ondrušeková (Tatra Gallery, Poprad), Júlia Sabová (Academy of Fine Arts, Bratislava), Ria Treppo (member of the preparatory committee of the Textile Art of Today, Austria), Vladimír Beskid (J. Koniarik Gallery, Trnava), Andrej Augustín (director of Textile Art of Today), Ľudovít Petránsky (member of the preparatory committee of Textile Art of Today) – were selecting the best artworks from the total number of 312 registered artists, while the student section was submitted by 40 talented authors. The commission carefully assessed each work of the submitted author and, after careful consideration, it decided to select a total of 83 authors from all continents of the world for the 6th year of the international festival, included 17 students.

“I admit, we were pleasantly surprised by the large participation of artists who, despite the unfavorable situation related to the global pandemic, signed up for the sixth year of the festival,” says Andrej Augustín, director of the Textile Art of Today project. “It was not easy to make a selection from the many quality works, but in the selection we had to take into account the spatial exhibition possibilities as well as the focus on new creative overlaps of textile art towards its interactivity, inventive work with material and content message. I believe that this selection of works will once again meet with a positive response from the professional and lay public, and the exhibition will be frequently attended, as in previous years.”

Enviro Award

The leitmotif of the 6th year is ENVIRO, which the festival organizers want to emphasize in the presentation of the international exhibition of textile art in its current form, which does not lack inventive visuals, crossing traditional boundaries of art, asking disturbing questions and emphasis on current technologies. This is one of the reasons why the ENVIRO AWARD will be awarded for the first time at the Textile Art of Today, for which 31 out of a total of 83 exhibiting artists have applied.

All works by selected artists will be presented at exhibitions in Bratislava, Poprad, Bielsko Biala, Uherské Hradiště and Budapest, as well as in the accompanying catalog. The introductory exhibition of the 6th year of Textile Art of Today will take place in September 2021 in the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava-Čunovo.
